Purpose in the wilderness
The model
The Shangaa team brings more than 25 years of experience in Tanzania’s tourism sector, combining deep local knowledge with a long-standing commitment to thoughtful, responsible safari experiences.
Across remote corners of Nyerere National Park, the camps create intimate access to rivers, lakes, forests and wildlife-rich valleys while linking the guest journey to conservation returns.
Connected outcomes
Shangaa Safari Camps is owned by Six Rivers Africa. Rather than generating returns for shareholders, camp profits are directed back towards protecting one of Tanzania’s great wilderness landscapes.
Shangaa creates a thoughtful bridge between this work and a select number of visitors, offering them the opportunity to witness conservation in action and better understand the landscapes, wildlife and communities it supports.
The work behind the journey
Well-resourced field operations—including ranger patrols, aircraft and technology—work alongside TANAPA to reduce threats and enable recovery.
Wildlife monitoring, habitat management and reintroductions help rebuild ecological function across the landscapes.
Targeted engagement and conservation-linked benefits support livelihoods, education and local participation, including the Six Rivers Africa Tourism Academy.
The landscape
The two camps reveal distinct environments within Nyerere National Park: Shangaa on a lake peninsula amid open plains and waterways, and Mkuti in the secluded Luwego valley south of the Kilombero River.
